About Us
The Roads &Transport Directorate was established in 2004 as a joint initiative between IPWEA (NSW) and Local Government NSW (LGNSW). It serves as a focus for research activities and the provision of technical advice to assist members in discharging their road management roles. The Roads & Transport Directorate represents key stakeholders focused on planning, delivery, and management of roads and transport services. Members are respected for their knowledge, skills and resources.
Purpose
IPWEA (NSW) Roads & Transport Directorate provides knowledge, technical resources, and advocacy to support Directorate members to optimise roads and transport outcomes.
Vision
Better roads and transport for the community.
Mission
- To build the capacity of our members and serve the industry with advice and technical expertise
- To become the "go-to group" in the design, building, and maintenance of safe and efficient infrastructure for the roads and transport industry
- To provide support for the benefit of the roads and transport sector in NSW
- To benchmark and develop evidence to support the case for increased investment in the construction, safe operation and maintenance of roads
The Directorate has had involvement in:
- The Streets Opening Conference (SOC)
- The LGSA Roads & Transport Committee
- Road Safety Panel
- IPWEA Group Meetings
- The initial issues identified by the Directorate for attention have been:
- Asset management - IPWEA Asset Management Workshops supported across NSW
- Sustainability
- Strategic Planning
- Timber Bridges - Working Group Established
- Transport Issues- Working group being established
The immediate future aims of the Directorate include:
- Providing support to Members in implementing best practice in Infrastructure Management
- Raising the level of awareness of the need for Asset Management
- Establishing partnerships with other industry bodies to support the needs of members
- Lobbying for increased funding for the improvement of Roads & Transport Infrastructure within NSW
